Glossary

The A-Z of wine terms. Its great to have a wide range of terms to describe all things wine, but its all nice to know what all the mumbo jumbo actually means. So this is where you can find out!

  • Complexity: When a wine is at once rich and deep, yet balanced and showing finesse.
  • Tannin: Tannin is found in the skins, seeds, and stems of grapes. Red wine absorbs a quantity of tannin, which lends a distinct character to the wine. Tannin is crucially important to the   complexity of a wine and how well it will age over time
  • Aroma ("nose"): A wine's aroma, or "nose," is the smell of the wine in the glass. The aroma can be floral, citrus, fruity, vegetal, earthy or any number of familiar scents depending on the grape varietals used, the winemaking process implemented and the wine's storage conditions.
